Custom Domain Setting for Blogger

What's the minimum you need to do for Custom Domain:

If you have purchased a custom domain for your blog through Blogger, you need to do three things:
Keep the email(s) telling you how to access the Domain Manager very carefully.  You may need this information in the future, if you change the way you want to use the domain, or for troubleshooting.
Go into the Google Apps domain tool (the email in step 1 has a ink to use), andset up at least one account with administrator rights,  and make sure that you remember the password for it.   (This isn't an account that you'll be using very often).
Go to Domain Settings > General and specify a secondary email for the administrator account  (just in case you ever do forget the password).
Unless you plan to use Google Apps email for the domain-administrator account often, then log in to Google-apps-mail for the admin account and set the forwarding address to an address that you do check regularly.   This is necessary because Google and the registrar (GoDaddy or eNom) may send important technical messages to the administrator account.

Note:  Google Apps email looks a bit like Gmail, but it's not the same thing (today, anyway ;-)    You need to go to (for business), and then sign-in by entering your domain name (the one your purchased) and choosing "go to email".

During the domain set-up process, you may be asked if you want to activate in Google Sites.   Unless you want to manage the domain in Google Sites (unlikely, since you're reading this article about Blogger), the answer is NO.

What other thing can you do:

As well as the domain-management essentials, there are a number of optional features that you may want to use - either when you first set up your custom domain, or perhaps a lot later when you want to use it in a more sophisitcated way.   The following notes are a very general taste of what's available - see Google Apps itself for the full range of options.

User accounts and services:
If you have purchased a custom domain for your blog through Blogger, you can create up to 10 email addresses for free (more if you're using a paid version of Google Apps).

You can choose which other Google-apps services are available for these accounts (choose from Gmail, Google Calendar,  Docs, Sites, Talk - and many many others).  By default, these are all ON, but you may have reasons for wanting to disable them.

These are collections of  users, which you can set up here.  Each group has its own email address.

You are given the option to automatically renew your URL every year while you were creating the account:  if you've changed your main, you can change the option selected in the Domain Administration too.

Look and feel
Under Domain Settings > Appearance, you can set Google Apps to use your logo when your domain-users are accessing other services (Gmail, Calendar, Sites etc) on your domain.   I don't do this if a domain is just for my own use, but it can be helpful to remind people exactly which gmail (etc) they're using.

Under Advanced tools > Authentication, you can require verification (via a code sent to the user's mobile phone) when someone logs in from a new or unrecognised computer.

... and many more:
There are an ever-growing list of options under the domain manager.   Some of them won't be relevant to people who are using a custom domain just for a one-person blog, but some of them could be handy.

SEO Tips about Robot.txt | Statement meaning of Robot.txt

This is a SEO tips. It is a must requirement for an SEO to prevent indexing of search pages. Google webmaster tools do this automatically. If it is not done then use robot.txt to prevent custom search pages on your blog or website. Its code is like this. This can be tested in google webmaster tools whether the google bot is indexing or not.

To see the websites' robot.txt file write this in the address bar of the browser. E.g.

Read these instruction carefully to understand the robot.txt statements. (Resources google and other branded websites)

What do the robot instructions mean?

Here is an explanation of what the different words mean in a robot.txt file

The "User-agent" part is there to specify directions to a specific robot if needed.

There are two ways to use this in your file.

If you want to tell all robots the same thing you put a " * " after the "User-agent" It would look like this...

User-agent: * (This line is saying "these directions apply to all robots")

If you want to tell a specific robot something (in this example Googlebot) it would look like this...

User-agent: Googlebot (this line is saying "these directions apply to just Googlebot")

The "Disallow" part is there to tell the robots what folders they should not look at.

This means that if, for example you do not want search engines to index the photos on your site then you can place those photos into one folder and exclude it.

Lets say that you have put all these photos into a folder called "photos".
Now you want to tell search engines not to index that folder.

Here is what your robot.txt file should look like:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /photos

The above two lines of text in your robots.txt file would keep robots from visiting your photos folder. The "User-agent *" part is saying "this applies to all robots". The "Disallow: /photos" part is saying "don't visit or index my photos folder".

Googlebot specific instructions

The robot that Google uses to index their search engine is called Googlebot It understands a few more instructions than other robots. The instructions it follows are well defined in the Google help pages (see resources below).

In addition to the "User-name" and "Disallow"

Googlebot also uses the...

The "Allow:" instructions lets you tell a robot that it is okay to see a file in a folder that has been "Disallowed" by other instructions.

To illustrate this, let's take the above example of telling the robot not to visit or index your photos. We put all the photos into one folder called "photos" and we made a robot.txt file that looked like this...

User-agent: *
Disallow: /photos

Now let's say there was a photo called mycar.jpg in that folder that you want Googlebot to index. With the Allow: instruction, we can tell Googlebot to do so, it would look like this...

User-agent: *
Disallow: /photos
Allow: /photos/mycar.jpg

This would tell Googlebot that it can visit "mycar.jpg" in the photo folder, even though

How to submit a sitemap to Bing

How to submit a sitemap to bing. Read following. It is very easy.

A Sitemap file enables webmasters to identify the most important content pages on their site. However, Sitemap files are not automatically detected and read by search engines. By submitting your Sitemap file to Bing, it tells us where to find the file. That helps guide the Bing crawler to more content pages on your site. Sitemap files are most commonly created in XML format. However, Bing also supports Sitemap files created in RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3, Atom 1.0, and text formats.

Options: These are the options available by which anyone can be used to submit your sitemap to your site.

  1. Bing Webmaster Tools
  2. Ping service
  3. Reference in robot.txt file

Option details

There are multiple methods for webmasters to submit their Sitemap files to Bing:
  1. Bing Webmaster Tools

    You can sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools and use the Sitemaps tool. To submit your Sitemap files, follow these steps:
    1. Sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools.
    2. On the Home tab, click the registered site for which you want to submit a Sitemap file.
    3. Click the Crawl tab.
    4. Click Sitemaps.
    5. Click Add Feed.
    6. In the Add Feed dialog box, enter the URL and filename of your Sitemap file, such as
    7. Click Submit.
    • This is the preferred method for receiving Sitemap files.
    • There is no limit to the number of Sitemap files Bing Webmaster Tools can manage. However, if you have more than just a few Sitemap files to submit, we recommend that you create a single Sitemap index file that lists the other Sitemap files on your site. After you have submitted your Sitemap index file, remove the site’s other Sitemap files from Bing Webmaster Tools, as they are no longer necessary.
    • For more information about registering to use Bing Webmaster Tools, see How to register a site.
  2. Ping service

    Using your browser’s address bar, you can directly submit your Sitemap to Bing. Type the following:
    substituting the full URL of your Sitemap file in place of the “” example, and the full file name and file extension of your Sitemap file in place of the “sitemap.xml” example.
  3. Reference in robots.txt file

    If you are using a robots.txt file to instruct search engine bots which files and directories not to crawl and thus block them from indexing that content, you can add a new line at the end of that file that points to the URL of the primary Sitemap file. Type the following:
    substituting the full URL of your Sitemap file in place of the “” example, and the full file name and file extension of your Sitemap file in place of the “sitemap.xml” example. For more information about creating a robots.txt file, see How to create a robots.txt file.

How to add UnderConstruction Page |Under Construction

add a Welcome Page To Your Blogger/BlogSpot Blog.

See this hack live at Disqus In BlogSpot blog

Follow the instructions given below to add a similar page to your blog:

Log in to Blogger, go to "Layout" -> "Edit HTML"
and find (CTRL+F) this code in your blog template

Immediately ABOVE/BEFORE it, paste these lines of code:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href=""/>
<script type="text/javascript" src=""></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src=""></script>

Go to "Layout" -> "Page Elements" and click on "Add a Gadget" and select it as "HTML/JavaScript"
And paste this code into it:

<!----------// POPUP (AUTOLOAD) //---------->
<div id="pop01" class="leightbox">

<div class="scrollbox">

<h1>Welcome To My Blog</h1>
<p>A blog by <a href="">BloggerStop.Net</a></p></div>

<a href="#" class="lbAction" rel="deactivate">Enter The Blog</a></div>

<!----------// POPUP (AUTOLOAD script: add AFTER the autoload popup div) //---------->
<script type="text/javascript">
lb = new lightbox();

Change the code highlighted in Purple and RED, and save the widget.

NOTE 1: Remember to place this widget somewhere in the top region of your blog (above "blog posts" widget if possible), to make sure that this widget loads before other widgets.

NOTE 2: Under Construction page is often required in all the pages, but as welcome page is required only in the "HomePage", so use this tutorial to show the widget only in the homepage.

You can change the background overlay color and transparency by editing the leightbox.css file before uploading it.
Here's the code you have to change in the leightbox.css file.

div#overlay {
display: none;
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
z-index: 100;
background-color:#000; //color default - back
-moz-opacity: 0.8; //opacity default at 80%
opacity: 0.8; //opacity default at 80%
filter: alpha(opacity=80); //opacity default at 80% for IE

NOTE: To display this page as entirely different web page, set opacity and -moz-opacity at 1.0 (fully opaque)

Add an UnderConstruction Page to Your Blogger/BlogSpot blog

You may sometimes want to hide your blog partially (or make it inaccessible). Especially when editing any important part of your template, like sidebar or any widget.
So to hide your blog partially temporarily, use the same method as described above, but remove the option to enter the blog. You can do this by using this code in STEP #2

<!----------// POPUP (AUTOLOAD) //---------->
<div id="pop01" class="leightbox">
<div class="scrollbox">

<h1>Welcome To My Blog</h1>

<p>A blog by <a href="">BloggerStop.Net</a></p>
<p>This Page Is Under Construction</p>
<p>Sorry For The Inconvenience</p>
<p>Come Back Within An Hour :)</p>

<!----------// POPUP (AUTOLOAD script: add AFTER the autoload popup div) //---------->
<script type="text/javascript">
lb = new lightbox();

See a working example at Blogger Blogs UnderConstruction
